BIOL 1210 Principles of Biology 2

In first-year biology, I explored the principles of biology including biological diversity, speciation, and the evolutionary conundrum of sexual reproduction in both plants and animals. I also developed many skills including working in teams, conducting research projects by developing and testing hypotheses, and communicating the results effectively.

BIOL 2160 Introductory Microbiology

In microbiology, I learned about the vital roles that microorganisms play in maintaining ecosystem health and driving sustainable solutions. The highlighted sections talking about bioremediation, wastewater treatment, and industrial microbiology were important for making me more aware about the environmental importance at a micro-level. In addition to this, the laboratory training included cell culture techniques and applied microbiology, emphasizing the use of microbes in environmental sustainability efforts.

CHEM 3020 Atmospheric Environmental Chemistry

In atmospheric chemistry, I examined the structure, composition, and chemical processes of Earth’s atmosphere, emphasizing their environmental impacts. Some of the topics I learned include interactions with solar radiation, the role of the stratospheric ozone layer, and the chemistry behind photochemical smog and acid rain. Understanding these processes is key to addressing air pollution, climate change, and atmospheric sustainability challenges. Thanks to this course, I was able to appreciate the chemistry behind what occurs in the environment and the impact of some key chemical compounds on our ozone.
